About NSBE Queen’s
Empowering Black students in STEM at Queen’s University.
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is one of the largest student-governed organizations in the world, founded in 1975 and now home to over 16,000 members across 500+ chapters worldwide. NSBE’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
At Queen’s University, NSBE provides a vibrant community where Black students in STEM can thrive through academic support, professional development, mentorship, leadership opportunities, and community service. Guided by our core values of Excellence, Exposure, Community, Empathy, and Leadership, we strive to create spaces where every member feels empowered to achieve their goals.
Our Goals
Academic Engagement
Stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering and STEM disciplines, encouraging curiosity, innovation, and persistence in the field.
Increasing Representation
Strive to increase the number of minority students pursuing engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, ensuring equitable access to opportunities.
Advanced Achievement
Encourage members to pursue advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain professional engineering registrations.
Public Awareness
Promote awareness of engineering and the opportunities it provides for Black students and other underrepresented minorities, building visibility and breaking barriers.
Advocacy & Representation
Serve as a representative body that addresses the issues and challenges affecting the careers and futures of Black engineers, ensuring their voices are heard and valued.
