Who We Are
The Queen’s University National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) chapter is one of the many chapters of the North American NSBE organization. Our mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. Through our events, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, we support academic success and celebrate Black excellence on campus.
Mentorship That Matters
Our mentorship program connects Black engineering students with upper-year students and graduates who understand their journey. Through guidance, support, and shared experiences, we help members navigate academic challenges, career opportunities, and personal growth. Mentorship at NSBE is about building lasting connections that inspire confidence, success, and a commitment to giving back
In first year, I had a student mentor and they helped to support me academically by helping me with my hard courses and also teaching me about the culture of Queen's. Also, throughout the other years I met lots of students who looked like me in engineering.
NSBE made school feel a lot less isolating. It was good to have people I could relate to and talk with outside of just classes. It gave me a space where I felt supported and could just be myself, and that really helped me through.
NSBE impacted me personally by providing a community during COVID. The online events at the time were a great way to connect with other black engineers, hear what everyone was up to. And that made me feel less alone in the journey. Even coming out of COVID, it was great to interact with other people in person.
NSBE not only gave me a safe space and a community of new friends but also a place to develop my professional skills and enhance my portfolio. NSBE events are a great place to relieve school stress and being an exec taught me how to adapt to a corporate like structure.
