Overview
Started in 1990, the Better Education Donation (BED) Fund is a student initiative that aims to improve engineering education at Queen’s by purchasing cutting edge equipment and technology for the use of undergraduate students. The money for the fund comes from a $60 “opt-outable” fee donated by each undergraduate engineering student. Students have the freedom to reduce their donation as they see fit. Approximately $80,000 is raised for new equipment each year. Each discipline elects a BED Fund Representative who reaches out to their peers to gather input and ideas for the year’s BED Fund proposal. The entire process is overseen by the BED Fund Coordinator, who reports to the Director of Academics. The BED Fund team for the 2019-20 academic year is as follows:
Head Manager – Thea Rainford
Marketing and Outreach Coordinator – Sydney Wilson
Discipline Rep Coordinator – Genevieve Norris-Roozmon
If you have input on how your discipline’s money should be allocated, contact your discipline’s representative.
