Science Formal
Engineering students at Queen’s University are well known for their spirit and ingenuity, and this is best displayed through Science Formal. Science Formal is a century old tradition, which has evolved from an annual dance to a much anticipated event for the graduating class.
Science Formal dates back to 1903, yet it was the class of 1923 that first included more ambitious visions such as large structures and waterfalls. The elaborate themes started in 1927 with the Japenese Gardens. By the 1940’s, the development of major themes for the event was firmly established and Science Formal was, and still is, a highly anticipated event. Today Science Formal is a massive student run project, with a $80,000 budget, 35,000 hours of construction, 600 students and a year’s worth of careful planning to produce.
